The new rename startup MapD is now known as OmniSci. Whose mission is to make analytics instant, powerful, and effortless for everyone. We had the opportunity to get some insight from the Vice President of engineering David Besemer and the Chief Marketing Officer Grant Halloran on how to build a successful startup in San Francisco. OmniSci has made some big power moves this pass year, (peep the name change) shining the light on the 40% data growth per year, exceeding the growth in CPU processing 20% per year. The Startup has joined the open source movement, making their resources public and free for any users wanting to try their database. Not only did we learn about the amazing programs OmniSci is creating for the tech world, but key ways to building a great business.

– Starting with defining your companies culture and values. OmniSci stresses the importance of having a “Day one attitude.”
– Know the “Why”! This company is successful because they know why they serve their customers.
– Do what it takes, and challenge your team.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
– Steve Jobs
